High Latitude Phenomenology.

Abstract

The solar wind furnishes the power for a number of energetic high latitude phenomena. The overall magnetospheric morphology is described. The interaction begins with a description of the solar wind and then leads through the magnetospheric structure. The energetic particle precipitation is described. The sources of the various electron and proton precipitation areas are identified. Much of the plasma and energetic particle behavior is governed by the earth's magnetic field which is described. The plasma and particle populations in the various regions of the magnetosphere are identified. A number of fluctuating phenomena in the magnetosphere are described. Current systems and heat conduction are discussed.
