Specification and Evaluation of a Standardized Job Control Language. Volume 1.
Abstract
The report describes the first phase in the development of a machine independent job control language. The aim is to develop a language which will provide for the user the greatest possible ease of learning, ease of use, range of capabilities, and standardization across computer systems. Six large contemporary control languages are selected, three of which are used as a study group, and the others as a control group. The study group is examined for weaknesses and capabilities, and a functional model of a job control language is developed. The functional model is then compared against all six contemporary languages. (Author)
