On the Steady-State Solution of an E sub m/E sub k/r Queue with Heterogeneous Servers.

Abstract

The report develops the theoretical work that provides the means whereby numerical results can be obtained for a heterogeneous-server queue with Erlangian interarrival and service time distributions. By using the method of phases and the generating function technique, the analysis is reduced to that of determining the latent roots of a characteristic polynominal matrix. In addition to the general heterogeneous-server queue, a special case, the homogeneous-server Erlangian queue, is analyzed in detail. It is concluded that, excluding a finite subset, the set of stationary probabilities of a multiple-server Erlangian queue form a linear combinations of geometric distributions. (Author)
