Some Properties of Turbulence in a Stratified Shearing Flow.

Abstract

The report contains a description of reasearch closely connected to an experimental investigation of turbulent, stratified, shearing flow. The experiment is one of the simplest in which three basic properties of a turbulent flow - stratification, energy dissipation and shear - are present, and it is hoped that a good understanding of this experiment will lead to useful information about turbulent processes in the atmosphere and oceans and other density-stratified fluid systems.
