High-Temperature Mass Spectrometry. Volume III. Dissociation Energies and Heats of Formation of Ag2 and Au2,

Abstract

The dissociation energies and heats of vaporization for the symmetric molecules Ag2 and Au2 have been determined by the combined techniques of Knudsen cell effusion and high-resolution mass spectrometric analysis of the effusates. The dissociation energies for Ag2 and Au2 were found as were heat heats of vaporization. The dissociation energy of Au2 obtained by the Birge-Sponer linear extrapolation technique for the ground state appears to be about 6 kcal/mole too high. (Author)
