Theory of Conjugate Projections in Finite Element Analysis.

Abstract

The lecture is devoted to a discussion of the theory of conjugate subspaces, conjugate projections and conjugate approximation functions in the finite element analysis of boundary value problems in mathematical physics. Special emphasis is given to applications in linear elasticity and the linear theory of structures. Examples of higher order conjugate finite element approximations are given and the concept of consistent stress approximations in finite element models based on assumed displacement fields is presented.
