HFPN Implementation Study

Abstract

The purpose of the investigations and hardware development described was to improve the reliability and performance of the coherent linear FM/CW synthesizers, delivered by AVCO under previous contracts, and based on a modification of the Hewlett-Packard direct digital synthesizer, and to demonstrate the feasibility of using a new type of phase-locked VCO synthesizer for generation of the linear FM/CW waveform. The latter synthesizer was also incorporated into breadboard-type hardware to comprise a single-antenna vertical-incidence ionosonde.
