PICTUR--A Computer Program for Description, Manipulation, and Display of Straight-Line Drawings.

Abstract

One large class of pictures handled in computer graphics is the class of straight-line drawings, and one means of representing such drawings is by the use of string languages. The purpose of this paper is to present a computer program, called PICTUR, which employs a modification of the PADEL string language to describe line drawings for the purposes of topological manipulation and display. PICTUR accepts a line drawing in the form of a modified-PADEL string description and translates it into a corresponding internal list form and performs topological transformations on this description and displays the results on command from the user. The results may be displayed either pictorially, on a cathode ray tube, or by printout of the string description for the transformed picture. All pictures handled by PICTUR are assumed to be transparent. No attempt is made to solve the 'hidden line problem.' (Author)
