Secondary Evaluation of Antimalarial Agents.

Abstract

The objective of this program is to carry out secondary screening of selected drugs for this antimalarial activity against sporozoite induced infections of P. berghei yoelii. Of 117 drugs evaluated, 43 were found to exhibit prophylactic activity. Differentiation tests utilizing subinoculation procedures confirmed the prophylactic activity for 13 of 24 drugs that were tested. The influence of route of administration and suspending vehicle on the activity of selected compounds against blood-passaged P. berghei is also being investigated. To date, some 37 drugs have been tested by multi-level dose response protocols in this system. (Author)
