Electron Density in an Electron Beam Stabilized High Pressure Discharge

Abstract

The basic differential equations for the electron beam stabilized discharge are formulated and a discussion of the relevant physical processes is presented. Rapid charge transfer among the positive ions is shown to result in a considerable simplification of the basic equations. An analytic solution is given which, in an approximate manner, includes the effect of oxygen attachment. A comparison between calculated electron densities and preliminary measurements is shown to be in reasonable agreement.
