Trajectories of Raindrops in a Jet Issuing into a Normal Crosswind.

Abstract

Numerical solutions are presented to the motion equations of solid spheres simulating raindrops falling into a plane jet issuing into a normal crosswind. The results of these computations are discussed in terms of their significance for 'air curtain' type devices. This includes a discussion of basic scaling laws and some order of magnitude estimates of the power requirements. It is stressed that this is principally a qualitative investigation of scaling effects and is not to be taken as an exact simulation of the particle-flow field described. (Author)
