Ground/Air Detection System (GADS).

Abstract

GADS is a system capable of detecting, analyzing, and transmitting to air interrogating aircraft information concerning the number, direction, and speed of vehicles and/or people passing along trails and roads. System development was carried out in two phases. A hand-emplaced version was developed and subsequently tested in a hostile environment of the Panama Canal Zone with excellent results, i.e., feasibility of GADS concept was clearly demonstrated. The second phase of this program consisted of modifying this system to an air-deployed version. Due to schedule and budget limitations, only a minimal effort was carried out to develop an airborne version of GADS, and for this reason some of the minor problems encountered could not be carried to a totally satisfactory conclusion.
