Mineralogical and Grain-Size Data on Selected Samples from the Forest Hill Formation in Western Mississippi,

Abstract

A review of the literature of the past 110 years made it apparent that little, if any, petrographic or engineering data has been available to the geologist or engineer regarding the Forest Hill Formation in central Mississippi. This investigation is an attempt to provide data to both the geologist and the engineer. The data provided by the study includes mineralogy, particle-size distribution, results of selected physical tests such as Atterberg limits and hydrometer analysis, and results of miscellaneous other tests. Particles coarser than No. 400 sieve were examined optically and checked extensively by X-ray diffraction, while that material finer than No. 400 was examined by X-ray exclusively. (Author)
