Design, Analysis, and Construction of Precast Concrete Elements with Bamboo Reinforcement

Abstract

The purpose was to study the feasibility of using bamboo as the reinforcing material in precast concrete elements. The objectives were to: (1) determine the load-carrying capabilities and deflection limitations of precast concrete flexural elements with bamboo reinforcement under both short-term and sustained loads; and (2) modify current ultimate strength design and area-moment procedures, as necessary, so that ultimate moments and deflections of bamboo- reinforced concrete elements can be reasonably estimated.
