Electronic Time Fuze for Mortar Illuminating Rounds (60, 81 mm)-Feasibility Study

Abstract

A new electronic time-fuze concept has been investigated for use with the new Company Lightweight Mortar System (CLWMS), which is expected to have a flight time of greater than 40 sec. In the new concept, the fuze is settable at 2-sec intervals up to 50 sec, uses the power supply and basic hardware from the multioption fuze (MOF) that is being developed for the new mortar system, and employs the analog electronic timer from the XM 732 Short-Intrusion Artillery Proximity fuze. The report summarizes the results of that study and presents a preliminary development and cost plan.
