A Consistent Theory for the Elastic-Plastic Stability of an Annular Plate under Inner Tension,

Abstract

An annular plate is subjected to an in-plane tensile loading at its inner edge. The plate is made of an elastic/plastic material which satisfies the Tresca yield criterion with linear isotropic hardening. The buckling load at which an out-of-plane deformation first becomes possible is found for a wide range of plate and hardening parameters. Depending upon the values of these parameters, buckling may occur in the elastic, elastic-plastic, or fully plastic stage of the in-plane deformation. (Author)
