Scattering Theory of the Linear Boltzmann Operator.

Abstract

The paper discusses work that demonstrates that the Boltzmann equation, in the collision free case, is the abstract Cauchy problem corresponding to Newton's first law. An analogue to the definition of a Hamiltonian operator for a free particle is developed. And, the ability to use the methods of spectral theory of linear operators is established when working in complex Banach space. (Author)
