Study of an Annular Air Bearing with External Pressurization,

Abstract

An annular thrust bearing with an external gas feed is the most suitable type of bearing for many machines. The possibility of vibrations occurring in this design is less than in other bearings. The investigation of flow in the bearing clearance was carried out using the specified potential method. The method was used to determine the potential function satisfying the Laplace equation, which is derived from the simultaneous solution of motion and continuity differential equations for a laminar isothermal gas flow. A system of flows from three sources to three exits is reviewed. Experimental data are presented and a comparison is made with calculated results.
