The Expected Justification of Forecast in the System of Quadratic Discriminant Analysis,

Abstract

Today methods of mathematical statistics are penetrating meteorology increasingly more. Specifically for forecasting meteorological elements both parametric and nonparametric discriminant analysis methods are used. In this report a study was made of the distribution of a quadratic discriminant function on the assumption of normalcy of the initial general sets. The corresponding characteristic functions were determined. In some cases precise formulas are given for the probability density function; in other cases approximate expressions are proposed.
