Surface Current Measurements by Expendable Probes.

Abstract

A method is described for measuring the absolute surface current velocity which is the vectorial sum of the sea current and the local wind drift velocities. The method uses an expendable probe which can be dropped from aircraft or launched from surface vessels. The accurate measurements obtained can be particularly useful in search and rescue operations as well as in pollution monitoring incidents. (Author)
