Air Droppable Wire Dispensers for Atmospheric Electricity Studies.

Abstract

A description is given of the design, construction, and testing of an instrumented canister, which dispenses 6000 ft of thin wire when dropped from an aircraft. The wire is pulled-off from a parachute-supported bobbin by the weight of a telemetry unit. These devices are intended for use in thunderstorms to provide information on the artificial triggering of lightning strokes. (Author)
