Application of an Insoluble Hageman Factor Complex to Kinin Research.

Abstract

A water-insoluble complex of prekallikrein activator was prepared by adsorbing Hageman factor (factor XII) on diatomaceous earth and cross-linking it with glutaraldehyde. The preparation initiated the clotting of human Hageman factor deficient and avian plasma. It also activated prekallikrein in Hageman factor deficient plasma, in avian plasma and in a homogenate of colon wall. The insoluble, stable prekallikrein activator was also used to study the effect of septic shock on the level of kininogen in human plasma. (Author)
