CW YAG Laser Techniques.

Abstract

A Nd:YAG laser has been built which provided self compensation of thermally induced stress birefringence and yielded a power output of 27 watts in the TEM(00) mode. To improve the compensation, compact structures involving cemented and sleeved assemblies were fabricated and tested. The limitations of the present compensation technique are discussed and design changes for improved performance are proposed. The performance of compensated Nd:YAG lasers was compared with that of Nd:YA103 systems. Finally, an analysis of the use of the compensated laser as a pump for nonlinear optical processes is presented. (Author)
