The FORTRAN Frequency Analyzer as a Data Gathering Aid for Computer System Simulation,

Abstract

The report introduces the FORTRAN Frequency Analyzer program presented to ESD by the RAND Corporation, describes the Analyzer's implementation and uses, and presents an experiment in using the Analyzer as an aid in data collection for computer system simulation. In this experiment the input is to the COMET (Computer Operated Machine Evaluation) Simulator program, but the Analyzer's use is not limited to this simulation package only. The experiment has been specifically designed for simplicity, to allow the reader to validate the Analyzer's output. General conclusions on the value of the FORTRAN Frequency Analyzer program as an aid for data gathering are presented, as well as recommendations for its enhancement and conversion to systems other than the IBM 360-370 systems.
