Performance Evaluation of Three Subsonic Annular Diffusers,

Abstract

An experimental investigation of the performance of three subsonic annular diffusers has been made. These diffusers have the same axial length (18-3/4 in.) and the same outlet-to-inlet area ratio (2.76) and the same outlet-to-inlet area ratio (2.76) and were tested at inlet velocities from approximately 100-450 feet per second. The basis on which their comparative performance was evaluated is static pressure recovery. The straight wall diffuser with a divergence angle of 12 degrees was found to be the best of the three available diffusers. The measured static pressure recovery coefficient of .6 is not particularly good, though conditions discussed in the report suggest in actual use the performance would be somewhat better. (Author)
