Experimental Investigation of the Stability of Cylindrical Shells in Torsion,
Abstract
The article presents experimental data relevant to the magnitude of the lower critical load and to the character of corrugation formation in cylindrical shells subjected to torsion. The diagram of the arrangement with the aid of which experiments were performed is represented in a figure. The basic elements of the arrangement are two strictly parallel disks and a shaft. The top dish is rigidly connected with the shaft by means of a key. The shaft at its butt end is rigidly fixed on a plate by means of a threaded spindle. Within the gaps of the disks with the aid of rings and bolts, the ends of a tested shell are fastened. When the nut, which is in the form of a hand wheel, is tightened, torsion of the shell takes place. (Author)
