Preliminary Reports, Memoranda and Technical Notes of the ARPA Materials Summer Conference Held at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, July 1971. Volume 1

Abstract

The structure and properties of polymeric materials possessing spatial gradients was studied. Structural gradients of polymers are generated by changing the chemical nature of the monomers, the molecular consti-tution of the polymers, or the supramolecular structure of the polymer. Gradients are possible for single-phase and heterophase systems and are associated with gradients in properties. Properties considered were chemical, mechanical, biomedical and transport. Possible applications of gradient polymeric systems were considered.
