Preliminary Equation System Describing the Effect of Stacking Faults on Ultrasonic Reflectivity.

Abstract

A system of equations which describes the conic pattern reradiated from a crystalline surface can aid in analysis of the fault structure of a crystalline material. A preliminary study of such a system has been made. A bounded, ultrasonic beam reflected from a liquid-solid interface will show a reflectivity in disagreement with theoretically predicted reflectivities. Some possible mechanisms which would explain this discrepancy are discussed and a theoretical model for the system is outlined. ( (Author)
