Coefficient of Friction on the Leading Edge of a Cutter during Straight Cutting Along the Grain,

Abstract

The coefficient of friction of shavings on the leading edge of the cutter during straight cutting along the grain is calculated. Based on the calculations and experiments performed, it is concluded that the coefficient of friction decreases with increasing moisture content of the wood, depends on the type of wood and is independent of the geometry of the cutter.
