A Chemical Laser Operating on Mixtures of Fluorine and Fluorides of Nitrogen with Deuterium,

Abstract

A study has been made of the generation spectrum of excited molecules of DF obtained in the process of chemical reactions in D2 + F2, D2 + NF3, D2 + N2F4 and D2 + FNO2 mixtures at a pressure of about 1 torr (mm Hg). It has been found that the greatest number of generation lines (including those in the 1-0 band) is observed in the case of a laser operating on a D2 + NF3 mixture. A study of the behaviour of the intensity of the different lines in time has made it possible to elucidate the features associated with the increase of the temperature of the mixture in the course of the reaction and with cascade transitions.
