Adaptive Modeling and Control.

Abstract

In a variety of situations, the parameters which define a dynamic plant are poorly known, are unknown, or may change in an unpredictable way during operation. Improved control performance can be achieved if the unknown parameters' values are identified. Research conducted under these contracts studied the application of adaptive techniques to parameter identification and control of linear, nonlinear, and time-varying plants. The report outlines the research accomplished on open and closed-loop methods of parameter identification for linear plants, and for nonlinear plants using a combination of nonlinear quantizing and piecewise-linear operations. Adaptive inversion, decorrelation, orthogonalization and normalization are discussed. Adaptive control methods using a two-time-scale principle are explored. (Author)
