Reliable Integrated Wire Termination Devices.

Abstract

The purpose of the investigation is to cover the design and evaluation of a wire termination system capable of interconnection to a variety of multi-contact connectors such as cylindrical, rectangular rack and panel, printed circuit board, and terminal junction devices. The connective devices are to be capable of assembly and maintenance with a common tool for terminal insertion and withdrawal. In addition, the various connective devices shall be capable of reliably withstanding the environmental conditions encountered by both ground and airborne Army equipment. Primary emphasis is directed toward a significant improvement of the reliability and maintainability of wiring systems in Army aircraft. Protype test samples containing size 22D terminals have been fabricated and tested. Prototype test samples containing size 20 terminals (both metallic and dielectric retention) are being fabricated and will be evaluated according to the prepared test procedure. Terminal insertion and removal tools have been revised and will be evaluated according to a test procedure to be prepared. (Author)
