New Theodolites and Telescopic Range Finders,

Abstract

A detailed study was made of the design of optical theodolites and range finder instruments, their schematics, operating rules, rules for checking and adjusting, possible failures and methods of eliminating them. Recommendations are made with respect to maintenance of the instruments: cleaning and lubricating. The procedures for dismantling and assembling the primary units for repair is discussed. Primary attention has been given to the layout and checking of the primary parts of the theodolite: the telescope, axes, levels and azimuth circles. Operating principles are investigated in the section on telescopic range finders, and the primary sources of error are analyzed. Recommendations are made with respect to reducing or eliminating these errors. (Author)
