Segregation at Grain boundaries and Surfaces.

Abstract

The segregation of impurities to grain boundaries generated by vacancy currents in metals was measured and related to the magnitude of vacancy currents occurring during annealing and quenching and to atomic parameters such as the vacancy jump frequency around impurity atoms in an alloy. Vacancy currents were found to cause both enhancement and depletion of alloy constituents at grain boundaries. (Author)
