Glass Filled Thermoplastics - Effects of Glass Variables and Processing on Properties.

Abstract

The effect of glass variables, diameter, and size content, on the mechanical properties of glass filled materials has been determined in polypropylene, polystyrene and nylon 6. The combined effects of silane coupling agents and injection molding machine conditions have also been investigated with glass/polymer dry blends using the barrel of the molding machine as a mixer. The silanes giving optimum properties in polypropylene and nylon 6 have been identified and certain important machine conditions specified. (Author, modified-PL)
