Provisional Operational Handbook for the Prototype NOWEB Buoy,

Abstract

For the present program the Navy provided a standard operational NOMAD ocean data buoy, designated AN/SMT-1, meteorological station, automatic, marine. Rockets and rocketsondes were made available; mechanical and electronic equipment were developed by the contractor. The result was integrated into the NOWEB system and installed aboard NOMAD. The report discusses the following features: Upper atmosphere hardware; Upper atmosphere electronics; Operational characteristics; NOWEB buoy operation; Rocket select and launch procedure; NOWEB reloading procedures.
