Imaging through a Confocal Optical Interference Filter

Abstract

The problem of spatial and temporal filtering of an image by a spherical mirror type of optical interference filter is formulated. Improvements over current optical filter designs by 1,000 in the temporal resolution of optical images appear feasible. Applications--including velocity, temperature and turbulence distribution measurements and acousto-optic image conversion--are discussed.
