ZONE: A Computer Program for Reducing Test Arena Data to Zone Data, for Fragmenting Warheads

Abstract

The report describes the computer program ZONE, whose purpose is to convert input data, obtained by firing a fragmenting warhead in a test arena, into a quantitative description of distribution of the concentrations and velocities of the fragments by angular zone. Because all fragments are assumed to have the same weight, test procedure is greatly simplified in that there is no need to recover any fragments, but instead, only target panel coverings and filmed records of fragment hits need be examined to obtain the raw data. The report includes a description of the arena and methods for collecting the data, a description of the method of calculation, an input guide for using ZONE, and a sample case.
