Low Torque Control Bearings.

Abstract

An investigation was made to establish a low torque rolling element control bearing design possessing optimum characteristics for manual control applications. Torque data measurements for this program were conducted by the Fafnir Bearing Company, New Britain, Conn., under contract to the Lockheed-California Company. Over 3770 rotary torque measurements, recorded and graphically persented for 88 control bearings representing 16 different configurations subjected to 4 radial load conditions, formed the basis for evaluating the torque inducing effects of various bearing components and configurations.
