Non-Linear Electrical Generator Study.

Abstract

A two-dimensional numerical analysis basded on nonlinear partial difference equations of a cross section of long alternators is developed. The nonlinearity of the magnetic materials, the complicated contours of the cross-section of the laternators, and the various current density fields are fully considered. The new analysis is applied for the predetermination of the synchronous and transient reactances of large salient pole alternators and turbogenerators. The calculations were made for a General Electric Company alternator of the following data: 82.5 NVA, 16.5 kV, wye-connected, 40 poles, 180 rpm and 60 Hz, and for a Westinghouse Electric Corporation 200 MVA, 15 kV, wye-connected, four pole, 50 Hz turboalternator.
