Electrode Potential Measurements of Chemical Conversion Coatings for Ferrous Metals.

Abstract

A method was developed to measure electrode potential as a means to determine the quality of zinc phosphate coatings conforming to TT-C-490, Type 1. Electrode potential was measured on bare steel and on steel phosphate treated for 30 seconds, 1, 2, 3 and 5 minutes. Although the method differentiated between untreated and treated steel, it did not differentiate between the various levels of treatment time. (Author)
