The Coefficients of Second Harmonic Generation of Light (SHG) of Noncentrosymmetric Crystals.

Abstract

The piezoelectric and SHG effects, both described by a second-order matrix and denoted by the same symbol, are independent of each other. They are defined differently, however, and for the trigonal and hexagonal crystal classes lead to incorrect schemes for the SHG effect when the definition for the piezoelectric d matrix is used. It is shown how the correct SHG matrices may be derived from the well-known piezoelectric matrices. Some recent values for the SHG coefficients are given. (Author)
