The Helicopter Rotor.

Abstract

Emergence of the present configurations of helicopter rotors is briefly described. Some of the highlights of operational experience on pure helicopters and compounds have been presented. Characteristics of various types of rotors have been described followed by recent rotor developments and concepts. Rotor airloads and aeroelastic instabilities receive some attention. The need for further research on airloads, certain aspects of aeroelasticity and gust loads is brought out. The Appendix deals with rotor interactions on the fuselage. The emphasis throughout is on aircraft structures, vibrations, and related areas. Considerable attention has been focused on the hingeless rotor in view of current interest. (Author)
