Mobility Environmental Research Study. Report I. Selection and Description of Test Areas, U.S. Military Reservations,

Abstract

To develop the capability to predict in quantitative terms the effects of terrain obstacles on cross-country performance of ground vehicles, two principal areas of investigation were initiated, namely soil and obstacle studies. The obstacle studies were subdivided into the following three tasks: (1) Effects of Terrain Obstacles on Vehicle Performance, (2) Prototype Tests of the Effects of Multiple Terrain Factors on Ground Mobility in the U. S., and (3) Proof Tests of Ground Mobility in the U. S. This report is concerned with the first phase of the proof tests, selection and preliminary description of test areas.
