Investigations on the Temperature Fluctuations and Incidence of Micro-Thermals in the Air Adjacent to Natural Water Waves.

Abstract

Temperature, wind and wave data observed over Lake Michigan were analyzed to yield results on properties of sensible heat transfer in the near-surface layer. Significant features in the overwater data are associated with positive temperature fluctuations which appear as ramps (micro-thermals) in continuous traces. Objective methods based on the distinctive shape of the ramps were used to identify the occurrences of the micro-thermals. (Author)
