Properties of Glasses in the System SiO2-B203-BaO,

Abstract

The microhardnesses of the glasses were determined with a PMT-3 apparatus with 100 gram loads. Three parallel determinations were made for each sample to arrive at the average value. The microhardnesses of the glasses range from 440 to 560 kg/sq and increases with an increase in the SiO content. From the characteristics of the microhardnesses, the glasses can be placed in the category of the usual industrial compositions. The low coefficient of thermal expansion makes it possible to recommend individual compositions for production on the basis of the indicated system of heat-resistant glasses. (Author)
