Effects of Changing Selected Variables on Dynamic Foam and Aeration Test Results.

Abstract

The work was undertaken to determine the effect of varying conditions on the foaming properties of two oils. One oil, 0-67-10, gives consistently low foam volumes. The second oil, 0-65-12, gives a high foam volume. The test parameters investigated were air flow rate, altitude, oil volume, oil temperature, and air temperature. The following results were obtained. Foam volume appears to vary proportionally with air flow rate and directly with oil volume; Foam volume does not appear to vary uniformly with either altitude or oil temperature; Air temperature produced no discernible effect on foam volume; and Air flow rate has a more pronounced effect than altitude.
