On Calculations of Singlet-Triplet Radiative Transition Probability. I. Theory and Method,

Abstract

Since the singlet-triplet transition probabilities are very small quantities and are not readily obtained experimentally, it is desirable to be able to obtain the values of the transition probabilities theoretically. The transition probability is usually expressed in an infinite sum of spectral expansion by applying the perturbation theory, and only a few terms are taken in the actual theoretical calculation. The authors apply the double perturbation theory to the present problem. The Dalgarno interchange theorem is valid in spite of degeneracy of the triplet state, and hence more accurate calculations are feasible by the perturbation-variation approach. (Author)
