Spherical Hydrostatic Gas Bearing Gyro,

Abstract

The report summarizes the effort within the Guidance and Control Directorate on the development and evaluation of a spherical hydrostatic gas bearing gyro. The rotor is energized by aquick-reaction turbine drive mechanism. Light-actuated solid-state pickoffs generate electrical signals proportional to gyro case angular displacement relative to the space-fixed rotor. Evaluation results confirm a spin axis repeatability of 0.9 mr, drift rates less than 100 degrees/hour, and plus or minus 1 degree linear pickoff scale factor. (Author)
