On the Determination of the Individual Exchange Current Densities in Dual Consecutive Charge Transfer Reactions.

Abstract

A method is described to measure the individual exchange current densities in redox electrode reactions of the type S(r) = S(0) + 2e(-) in which the two electrons are exchanged in consecutive charge-transfer steps whose rates are too fast for steady-state polarization measurements to be applicable. This method consists of combining the values of the Tafel line intercepts obtained in galvanostatic measurements of the potential transients with determinations of d eta/di in the vicinity of the equilibrium potential.
